Agilo in situation

Based in Girona in the Catalonia region of north-eastern Spain, Vivers Sant Iscle is a leading Spanish tree nursery. Specialising in the production of trees of exceptional quality, the growers at Vivers Sant Iscle’s 60, 000m² facility have extensive experience in supplying large ornamental trees to the professional market across Europe with a focus on producing plants which are resistant to cold weather and free from pests and disease.

As a producer of large container-grown trees, plant blowover is a major issue for the growers at Vivers Sant Iscle’s Sant Feliu de Pallerols nursery. Container trees which fall over in the wind are susceptible to damage and drying out which not only reduces their market value but also increases labour costs for the nursery as growers have to spend time setting the trees upright again.

To avoid this issue, Vivers Sant Iscle initially used tying tubes to attach their plants but this solution proved less than ideal for the growers. When exposed to sunlight the tying tubes started to burn while their non-recyclable PVC coating leached plastic contamination into the soil. Additionally, their installation was proving too time-intensive to the growers as using the tubes requires experience and they can damage the trunks of young plants if not installed correctly.

Looking to reduce their labour costs whilst simultaneously decreasing their plastic consumption, Vivers Sant Iscle instead chose to use ARaymond’s innovative new Agilo fastening system for their container trees. Fully optimised for use during the life cycle of ornamental trees, the Agilo fasteners have been custom-designed by ARaymond to meet grower’s requirements in terms of quality, wind resistance and stability.

One of the fastest and strongest fastening solution on the market, the Agilo is made from premium UV-resistant materials and uses 2 independent closing systems to keep container trees in position. A plastic clip is fixed to an overhead wire to protect the plant against pot blowover in high winds and a flexible belt is attached to the trunk to ensure greater stability for the trees during the development phase.

An all-in-one solution for the nursery, since being introduced, the Agilo has optimised Vivers Sant Iscle’s time and labour costs as the fasteners are simple and easy to use with no training or experience required. Additionally, each fastener can be reused multiple times during its 4-year lifespan thereby reducing the need to buy new products each season and helping Vivers Sant Iscle reach their sustainability goals.
